Social Briefing: 1 October 2026
2026-10-01
Meta leads the day with a new AI agent for small businesses, a new enterprise AI unit and paid boosts for Instagram lives. WhatsApp also added parental controls for teen accounts.
[Instagram] Instagram lets creators boost a livestream as an ad
Instagram added a boost option inside the live video composer. A creator can turn a live stream into an ad that runs only while the stream is on, across Feed, Stories and Reels. Boosts can be set up before going live, with at least two hours of notice, using a chosen or suggested audience.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Paid reach for live shopping and launch events is now a few taps away, with no Ads Manager setup. Brands in Egypt and the GCC planning lives for White Friday or Ramadan should test a small boost budget per stream now, before the November rush.

[Meta] Meta launches Muse, an AI agent that runs tasks for small businesses
Meta introduced Muse for Small Business, an AI agent that works toward goals the owner sets, such as finding customers or growing sales. It connects to Instagram professional accounts, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts, plus tools like Shopify, Canva, Stripe and Slack. Meta says nothing is published, sent or spent without the owner approving it.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
It is live only in the US and Canada and Arabic is not on the language list, so local SMEs cannot use it yet. When it reaches MENA, Meta will push it hard, and agencies need a clear answer on what a human strategist adds that an agent cannot.

[WhatsApp] WhatsApp adds optional parental controls for teen accounts
Parents can now manage who sees a teen's profile photo and who can add them to groups. They get alerts when the teen joins or leaves a group, or when a group grows a lot, and can limit Channels, Status and Meta AI. Messages and calls stay encrypted, and any change by the teen needs a parent PIN.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
WhatsApp is the main channel for many brands here, and teen accounts may become harder to reach through groups and Channels. Brands aimed at young people in Egypt and the GCC should drop group growth tactics and make sure their Channel content is suitable for teens.

[Meta] Meta forms an Enterprise Platform unit and hires former MongoDB CEO
Meta created a new division, Meta Enterprise Platform, to sell its AI models, agents and infrastructure to large companies. First products include the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, the Muse API and Muse Code. Former MongoDB chief CJ Desai joins as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting to Mark Zuckerberg.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Meta now wants to sell AI to big companies, not only ads. Gulf telcos, banks and retailers that already serve customers on WhatsApp are natural buyers of customer service agents built by Meta, so watch pricing and Arabic support closely.

[Instagram] Edits app gets an AI assistant that reads your Instagram stats
Meta added an AI assistant to Edits, its video editing app. It looks at an account's views, retention, likes, shares and comments, then suggests video ideas, hooks and trending audio. It is free with a daily prompt limit and is rolling out in the US first, with more usage coming for Meta One subscribers.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Good for a quick account audit, but if every creator follows the same AI advice, Reels will start to look the same. Our edge for clients is Arabic dialect, local humour and cultural timing, which a stats tool will not invent.

[LinkedIn] LinkedIn tests Creator Discovery search for B2B brand campaigns
LinkedIn is testing Creator Discovery inside its Creator Marketplace. Marketers can filter creators by content type, industry, job function, audience demographics and Top Voice status. Full launch is expected in early 2027.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
LinkedIn says 63% of B2B buyers rely on creators early in their research. B2B clients in Egypt and the GCC should start working with local LinkedIn voices now, paired with Thought Leader ads, before the marketplace gets crowded.

[LinkedIn] LinkedIn launches Hiring Assistant 2 with memory and voice screening
LinkedIn upgraded its AI recruiting agent. It now remembers past hiring preferences, explains why a candidate fits, and shows signs of how open someone is to a move. It can also run first screening calls by voice, and LinkedIn says over 20,000 companies use its AI hiring tools.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
When AI builds the shortlist, a complete, verified profile and an active company page count for more. Help clients keep their LinkedIn pages and staff profiles current; it is now part of employer branding.

[Reddit] Reddit ends RSS feeds and moves all data access to a paid API
Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on 13 November 2026. All public data access moves to its paid Developer Platform, ending free access for approved developers. Reddit says RSS had become a common route for large scale scraping.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Any social listening setup that pulls Reddit through RSS will break in six weeks, so check your tools now. It also shows how much Reddit values its content as AI data, which keeps it important for how brands appear in AI search.

[Threads] Threads live chats get emoji reactions, raise hand and web access
Threads added live emoji reactions that float across the screen for everyone in a live chat. A raise hand option lets people ask to join when the host limits participants. Live chats are also coming to the web.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Live chats suit match nights and big TV moments, which drive huge conversation in Egypt and the Gulf. Brands with a sports or entertainment angle can host one during a key game and see if Threads delivers real engagement.

[Facebook] Meta adds AI answers and Top Voice badges to Forum, its Groups app
Forum, the standalone app for Facebook Groups, now has Ask, an AI tool that answers questions using posts from joined and public groups. A new Top Voice role highlights helpful members. The app is available in the US only, on iOS and Android.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Groups are huge in Egypt for parenting, cars, property and buying advice. If AI starts summarising group chatter, what real members say about a brand will matter more than its ads, so listen in relevant groups and earn genuine recommendations.

[Instagram] Instagram publishes a Reels guide as Reels pass half of app time
Instagram released an updated guide to making Reels and says Reels now take more than half of the time people spend in the app. It suggests 15 to 60 seconds for most content, 3 to 15 seconds for trends, and up to 3 minutes for longer stories. It also recommends using both text overlays and captions.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Use this as the default brief for client Reels: a hook in the first second, captions on every video, and most edits between 15 and 60 seconds. Longer Reels of up to 3 minutes are worth testing for tutorials and product demos.

[Snapchat] Snapchat launches Spend Smarter campaign to win B2B ad budgets
Snapchat started a campaign pitching itself to B2B marketers as the place where buyers first discover brands. It features industry voices and customer stories and runs on Instagram, TikTok and Substack in the US and UK. It follows a recent Snap summit aimed at financial services advertisers.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
Snapchat is a mass reach platform in Saudi Arabia, not just a youth app. Banks, fintechs and B2B tech brands in KSA should test it for awareness alongside LinkedIn instead of ruling it out.

[TikTok] TikTok builds an in app fan campaign around a Taylor Swift single
TikTok launched a phased in app experience for Taylor Swift's new single Patient Zero. Fans unlock profile frames, behind the scenes content and rewards by following accounts, saving the song and making videos with it.
What it means for brands in Egypt and the GCC
This is a template TikTok can sell: rewards unlocked by creating content. Music labels and big FMCG launches in the region can ask TikTok MENA for a similar activation around Ramadan or a major release.
