How do Google Ads work, and what do they cost?

Short answer

Google Ads work as an auction, and your Google Ads cost is the price per click you pay to win it. In Egypt, top of page bids for sample marketing keywords ranged from about EGP 6 to over EGP 600 per click (Google Keyword Planner, 2025 to 2026). Your budget equals clicks needed times cost per click.

How does the Google Ads auction work?

Every search triggers a new auction. Google gives each eligible ad an Ad Rank, a score that decides if the ad shows and in what position.

According to Google Ads Help, Ad Rank depends on:

  • Your bid: the most you will pay for a click.
  • Ad and landing page quality: how relevant and useful they are.
  • Ad Rank thresholds: the minimum score to show at all.
  • Competition: how close other advertisers' scores are.
  • Search context: location, device, time and the search itself.
  • Ad assets: extras like sitelinks and call buttons.

In short: position is roughly bid times quality. Google says higher quality ads can often lead to lower CPCs (cost per click).

You also rarely pay your full bid. Google states you only pay what is minimally required to clear the Ad Rank thresholds and beat the Ad Rank of the competitor immediately below you.

Quality Score

Google shows a Quality Score from 1 to 10 for each keyword. It is based on expected click through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Google calls it a diagnostic tool, not a KPI, but a low score is a clear warning that you are paying too much.

Which Google Ads campaign types should you know?

Where ads showBest for
SearchText ads on Google search resultsCapturing people who are already looking for you
Performance MaxAll Google inventory from one campaignSales and leads when tracking is solid
DisplayImage ads on websites and appsAwareness and retargeting

Campaign types as described in Google Ads Help. Most Egyptian and Gulf businesses should start with Search, because it reaches people with clear intent.

What do Google Ads cost in Egypt?

Google Ads has no fixed price. Each keyword has its own cost per click. Here are real ranges from Google Keyword Planner for Egypt, September 2025 to August 2026. These are "top of page bid" ranges, low to high, for sample marketing keywords.

These are marketing industry keywords only. Real estate, education, health and finance keywords each have their own ranges. Always check your own keywords in Keyword Planner before setting a budget.

What drives your Google Ads cost?

  • Competition: how many advertisers bid on the same words. Real estate and finance in Egypt and the Gulf are often expensive.
  • Commercial intent: "buy", "price" and "agency" searches cost more than general questions.
  • Quality: better ads and landing pages lower your CPC.
  • Market: the same keyword usually costs more in Saudi Arabia and UAE than in Egypt.
  • Language: Arabic and English versions of a keyword can have very different costs and volumes.
  • Season: Ramadan, Eid, White Friday and back to school raise competition.
  • Targeting: narrow locations and times can raise or lower cost.

How to estimate your monthly Google Ads budget

Use this simple formula: monthly budget = clicks you need × average cost per click.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Value
Goal30 qualified leads per month
Landing page conversion rate3% (30 leads need about 1,000 clicks)
Average CPC from Keyword PlannerEGP 25
Monthly budget1,000 × EGP 25 = EGP 25,000
Cost per leadEGP 25,000 ÷ 30 ≈ EGP 833
Average daily budgetEGP 25,000 ÷ 30.4 ≈ EGP 822

These numbers are made up to show the method. Swap in your own CPC and conversion rate.

Google may spend up to twice your average daily budget on busy days, but over a month you will not be charged more than 30.4 times your average daily budget (Google Ads Help).

Our recommended starting point: EGP 15,000 to 30,000 a month. At Egypt's typical cost per click of $0.20 to $0.60 (Entasher, 2025), that buys about 500 to 2,900 clicks, enough to learn which keywords bring customers.

How we approach Google Ads at OneKind

  1. Start with keyword research in Arabic and English, split by intent.
  2. Set up conversion tracking for real outcomes: leads, calls, purchases, app events.
  3. Launch tight Search campaigns with one theme per ad group and strong landing pages.
  4. Add negative keywords weekly to cut wasted clicks.
  5. Move to Smart Bidding once data allows. Google's Target ROAS needs at least 15 conversions in 30 days for Search.
  6. Add Performance Max, YouTube or App campaigns only after Search is profitable.
  7. Run separate campaigns for Egypt, Saudi Arabia and UAE, each with its own budget and CPC targets.

FAQ

How much does Google Ads cost per month in Egypt?

You set the budget, so there is no fixed monthly price. Your cost depends on how many clicks you need and the cost per click of your keywords, which ranges widely by industry.

Do I pay Google if nobody clicks my ad?

On Search campaigns with standard bidding, you pay per click, so no click means no charge. Some display and video campaigns charge per impression or view instead.

Why is my cost per click so high?

Usually because of strong competition, broad keywords or a low Quality Score. Better ad relevance, tighter keywords and a faster landing page can lower it.

Are Google Ads worth it for small businesses?

Yes, if people already search for what you sell and you track leads or sales. Start small with Search, measure cost per lead, then scale what works.

Is Google Ads more expensive in Saudi Arabia and UAE than in Egypt?

Generally yes for the same keyword, because of higher competition and buying power. Plan separate budgets per country.
